Antisamos Beach

Antisamos Beach - Kefalonia

Antisamos is one of the most beautiful beaches of Kefalonia, overlooking the southern coast of Ithaca. It is located in a bay on the east side of the island, 4 km from Sami. The beach surrounded by hills full of pine trees became famous when scenes of the Hollywood movie “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” were shot there, in the summer of 2000. Antisamos was the backdrop for Captain Corelli’s camp with the scene of the explosion to create one of the best spectacular effects.

It is a long beach with white pebbles and crystal-clear warm sea that deepens steeply quite soon after entering the water. The water starts off turquoise in the shallow bits and then goes deep navy. It is a well-organized beach with beach bars, parasols, sunbeds, water sports and free parking space.

It is a very popular beach getting inundated with countless tourists and locals during summer. You can reach it easily via the coastal road from Sami. The road crosses one of the greenest parts of the island with tall pines and trees. Near the beach is located the monastery of Panagia in Agrilia with wonderful views over the beach and the strait between Kefalonia and Ithaca. It is also worth visiting the derelict monastery of Agios Fanentos.
