The beach is located on the eastern coast of the island in a magnificent cove between the beaches of Faliraki and Ladiko in Rhodes. It is a rocky beach 250 meters long with lush vegetation and crystal clear blue waters. It is one of the most beautiful beaches of Rhodes, very popular for younger people as its sharp rocks inside and outside the beach are not suitable for families with small children or for older people. The seabed is very interesting and suitable for diving or snorkeling.
The story begins in 1960 during the filming of “The Guns of Navarone” starring Anthony Quinn. Part of the shooting was chosen to take place in a cove. The cove chosen was a small bay located 15 km from the center of Rhodes and just 3 from Faliraki. The name of this beach until then was Vagies. The beach has pebbles, pines and turquoise waters.
The actor was impressed by the beauty of the landscape and decided to buy the land and create an international centre for artists and film-makers. The Greek state granted him a land for a symbolic amount as a sample of the actor’s contribution to the country’s tourist promotion abroad through the films he starred in, such as “The Cannons of Navarone”, “Alexis Zorba” by Michalis Kakogiannis and the “Greek tycoon” where he embodied Aristotle Onassis. Eventually, due to many bureaucratic problems and despite the promises from the government, the purchase was later annulled.. The actor took legal action and tried to find a solution, but this was not possible.
